Coco Chanel 26/9

Coco Chanel Born Gabrielle“Coco” Bonheur Chanel was an excellent French fashion designer, founder of the well known Chanel brand, whose modernist thought, practical design, and pursuit of expensive simplicity made her an important and influential figure in 20th-century fashion. She was the only fashion designer to be named on Time 100:
The Most Important People of the Century.

Chanel was known for her lifelong determination, ambition, and energy which she applied to her professional and social life. She achieved both success as a businesswoman and social prominence thanks to the connections she made through her work.

The Chanel No.5 scent is the best selling in the world.

First in Vogue1916February 1st.

The seamlessness between clothing and feminism might indeed be what made Chanel designs so desirable and so timeless. But the potently quotable, ever-confident Chanel remarked on her legacy the best:
“I created the most well-known style in the world,” she said,
because fashion is ephemeral, but style is eternal.”

COCO CHANEL is the subject of the new exhibition that opened at the London College of Fashion (LCF) in August 13. The display features portraits of the designer taken by her friend, Californian artist Marion Pike.

The showcase will look at the friendship between the two, exploring their life stories and their creative influences

The display is on show between September 4 and November 16 at the college's Fashion Space Gallery on John Princes Street, London W1.

Hair Science 23/9

How to remove chewing gum
from your hair.

Rumours are that you can freeze the chewing gum, however this would be very difficult to do with putting a child's head in the freezer.

The best way, recommended  by 'Wriggles' is to combine butter and co co powder together and work this into the hair.
Sounds crazy but really doesnt work!

Sir Paul Smith - 19/9

Sir Paul Smith

English Fashion Designer

"You can find inspiration in everything. If you can't, than your not looking properly!"

He is commercially successful and

highly respected within the Fashion Industry.

Born in 1946 in Nottingham, England, Smith's childhood ambition was to become a professional racing cyclist. He left school at 15 with no qualifications and began working in a Nottingham clothing warehouse as an errand boy. He relished his cycle to and from the warehouse each day until aged 17 he was in a serious accident and sustained injuries that put an end to his racing ambitions. Six months in hospital followed, during which Smith made friends with people from the local art college who would introduce him to the world of art and fashion.

Returning to his job at the warehouse, he used his newly acquired interest in art and fashion and began making displays for the showroom. Soon after, he was made menswear buyer.
Smith also started to take evening classes in tailoring in Nottinghamshire where he learned to cut cloth as well as the basics. Soon after, he joined Lincroft Kilgour in Savile Row after being spotted by chairman Harold Tillman, where his designs were worn by celebrities including footballer George Best.
Paul Smith now has 15 shops and concessions in the UK and 200 shops worldwide, in markets including Japan, Paris, Milan, New York and Hong Kong. The business, still based in his native Nottingham, has turnover of £325 million.

As chairman and designer,  Sir Paul is still involved in every aspect of it.

MENS AUTUMN/WINTER COLLECTION 2013

Hybrid garments are prominent, appearing as if styles have been fused together. A tailored jacket has a leather biker-jacket inspired belt and back, whilst a coat and bomber jacket come together as one, and a smart trouser features leather and fabric panels. Athleticwear and knitwear merge to create a polo neck jumper with monochrome tracksuit sleeves and a smart trouser with sport side stripes. Tailoring is mod-inspired, including a three-button jacket and a waistcoat with buttons positioned high up on the garment. Other subculture influences include jeans that appear to be covered in red bleached marks, and a classic over-sized parka with fur hood. Layered and lacquered prints build on top of each-other, contrasting the traditional and the modern.

There's no question that Lady Gaga was a muse for fashion designer Alexander McQueen. His eccentric style meshed well with Gaga's fearless fashion sense. The pop singer even paid tribute to the fashion icon in her catchy 'Bad Romance' video last year -- strutting around in a pair of McQueen's infamous lobster claw heels and runway designs.

Architecture

is one of Angelo's inspirations.

“If I hadn’t become a hairdresser, I would have been an architect. I love the innovative shapes, creations, materials and textures. I particularly like modern and baroque architecture. I also like the way the Japanese use space and light in their buildings. A house should look beautiful, but the view from the window is equally as important. It can influence your life and the way it makes you feel.”

THE SIMONE HANDBAG MUSEUM, KOREA

A very interesting project for Angelo, such as designing the hair for the Simone Handbag Museum in Korea – a building dedicated to handbags – and in the shape of a handbag  in Seoul. He came up with all of the wigs for one of the whole floors there. It’s a permanent installation, which means if you go in 10 years’ time, what he created would still be there.

20's Look 11/9

Today is all about the 20's

Gatsby Glamour

Individuality, Creativity, Indulgence and freedom
is reflected in the 1920's fashion.

-Glittery heavily beaded long gowns
-Extravagant ostrich feathers
- Loose flowing dresses
- Flapper dresses

1920: So basically this is what i have learned from my lecture last week. Amazing!

The Great Gatsby" brings 1920's fashion roaring back into style.

US/UK Vogue got fully behind the Gatsby-inspired Twenties-style regalia and put Carey Mulligan, aka Daisy Buchanan, on the front of the magazine's May cover.

Carey Mulligan wears an Alexander McQueen ostrich feather dress with chiffon-covered pearls in the May issue of US Vogue

Hinting at the Twenties extravagance for pearls, feathers, headdresses and luxe style embellishments, Grace Coddington placed Carey in an Alexander McQueen ostrich feather chiffon dress for the Gatsby-inspired shoot in US Vogue's May issue.
